Multisport TrainingThese exciting classes are taught by experienced triathletes and combine swimming, biking, running, and crosstraining. A challenging workout for athletes of all levels, this training program can introduce you to multisport or re-energize a tired routine. Classes include indoor and outdoor training (weather permitting) and will prepare you for a number of competitions in the area. Mon/Wed/Fri 10-11:30 am Indoor Group CyclingIndoor Cycling is an ideal exercise for people at different levels of physical fitness with different goals. With no complicated moves to learn and music that begs your legs to pedal, this class is bound to be fun and challenging. You can expect the instructors to offer coaching on proper pedaling mechanics and bike adjustments. They also provide motivation as you progress through the workout, and even the occasional “gem” of fitness wisdom. Indoor cycling classes are fun, energizing, and suited to all levels of fitness. The wonderful thing about group cycling is that each bike has its own tension and ultimately the rider is in control of the workout received. All participants, veterans and novices alike, are asked to show up 15 minutes early to set up their bikes. New participants who show up just before class may be asked to come back next time, as this will interrupt the flow of the class. Please bring a towel and water bottle. Bike shorts and sturdy cross trainer shoes are recommended. Long pants/loose shorts and running shoes are discouraged. Helmets are optional. 4 of our bikes have clipless pedals for biking shoes with SPD clips. Please review the Cycling Information Sheet before coming to your first group cycling class.
Pilates
This no impact exercise routine is a unique method of body control and conditioning. Performed on the floor, you strengthen core muscles without putting stress on the ligaments and joints. Improved posture, balance, and flexibility are the result. A great addition to your current workout routine! Tai Chi Chuan with Bill Milam
Tai Chi Chuan is an intricate set of linked postures developed in China to enhance balance, fitness and longevity. Its highly dynamic, yet relaxed, movement appears simple, fluid, and soft. In reality it is quite challenging and when executed in the proper manner constitutes a demanding workout involving the mind as much as the body. The instruction will include the first third of the Yang family short form, Tai Chi walking, breathing, as well as some basic applications. Come learn to breathe and move in an entirely new way! About the instructor: Bill has been a student of Tai Chi as well as Pau Kua and Hsing Yi at Wu Hsing Shan in Bath under the late Al Gardiner for over 20 years. YOGAYoga is a wonderful method of exercise. It teaches how to recognize when your body is under stress and teaches you methods to help counteract stress. Unlike most exercise programs that work mostly on the circulatory and muscular systems, yoga works on all of the body including the endocrine, circulatory, vascular, nervous, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory, and muscular systems. Students will work on stretches, postures, breathing, and relaxation methods. Beginner YogaExactly what the name implies . . . yoga for beginners. This introductory class will acquaint you with the basics of yoga at an easy pace. Vinyasa Yoga with Melinda Baxter
Vinyasa is flow yoga that follows the breath in and out of postures with an emphasis on sun salutation variations. Typically a heat-inducing style of yoga, vinyasa is on the vigorous end of the yoga spectrum and is a great practice for those looking for both a physical and mental challenge. This class is open to all levels but it's best to join the class at the beginning of the session as most of the basic components are covered in the first few classes. About the instructor: Melinda Baxter has been practicing yoga for over eleven years. She has taught yoga for Hyde School and is currently teaching for Jai Yoga in Brunswick. Melinda is also a practicing licensed massage therapist specializing in injury and deep tissue work. Questions about the class? E-mail Melinda at melinda@melindabaxter.com. Yoga with Donna Dyer
